In what appears to be her strongest comeback show yet after years away from the tennis circuit, former top-seeded wunderkind Martina Hingis surmounted a sputtering start and roared into the second round of the Qatar Open with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Mashona Washington of the US.
By the time the second set came, the Swiss Miss got exceedingly confident that she tried a couple of “cute” interesting moves that didn’t quite yield the desired results but wowed the crowd just the same.
The match ended after 48 minutes and exemplified how the champion that wasn’t going quietly into the good night of her career and proved not only her mettle but her flair as well.
Her next match is with third-seeded Italian Francesa Schiavone.
