US Strikes Kill Tens of Militants in Election Aftermath
by Webnik (Posted 10-17-2005 01:10 PM) [View Discussion | Join Discussion | Rate Thread ]

Only days after the Iraqi referendum to ratify a new constitution, jets, helicopters and ground troops rained on militants in Ramadi, killing more than 60 and at one time killing at least 20 in one shot after an F-15 jet fighter bomber targeted a group of men burying a roadside bomb.

More than 10 million ballots were counted from the Saturday landmark election where many Sunnis went out to vote, even if against the charter, with partial results showing a clear win for a charter that the US supports.

It is a symbolic event that dovetails with the milestone of the referendum that determines if Iraquis agree to their country's new user's manual.
