It may seem like a tired adage, but the Internet still doesn’t cease to crank out wonders, literally and figuratively. The current marvel is a home webcam singer snagged by a major record label.
In a classic case of using technology to become a bona-fide star from your flat, 24-year-old UK resident Sandi Thom was signed up by RCA/SonyBMG for singing in her living room.
She developed a following and an audience numbering more than 100,000 from around the world by broadcasting live performances in her living room on the Web.
For once, recording companies start reaping benefits from the Internet in the form of finding good talent. Pirated copies of her songs may yet remind them of this two-sided coin.
