A tornado touched down near Awendaw during the storms earlier this week, the National Weather Service has confirmed.

Officials have not determined the strength of the storm that came down about four miles northwest of Awendaw late Wednesday, meteorologist Douglas Berry said Thursday.

Other tornadoes were confirmed in Kershaw and Newberry counties.

No serious injuries were reported.

But there was hail, high winds and downed trees and power lines as the storms moved across the state.
