Is it possible to be just a little paranoid? Probably not. But, no matter because either the US Government has completely lost touch with reality, or it is playing up to domestic fears that the US is losing strength in the face of a rising Chinese economic powerhouse.

This is one pretzel logic puzzle you'll have to sort out for yourself, because nothing about this story makes any sense. After all, it was the US which decided to assign Most Favored Nation trading status at a time when the fear that the awakening eastern giant might side with that other aging Eurasian collosus, Russia.
