Thunderstorms, hail, flooding -- and a tornado -- have hit the region hard, said the National Weather Service.

By Saturday afternoon, the weather was finally settling down.

But residents of the Philadelphia region were left with a post-storm mess to clean up.

Hong Kong has begun preparing for its first typhoon of the storm season as Chanchu began whirling toward the city after killing nearly 40 people and leaving thousands homeless in the Philippines.

The storm, which is expected to start lashing Hong Kong on Wednesday, was picking up strength in the South China Sea, and is about 370 kilometers (229 miles) east-southeast of the Paracel Islands, according to the Hong Kong Observatory.

The National Weather Service says that three tornadoes touched down in the Fredericksburg area yesterday afternoon, reported by the Associated Press.

Damage was said mostly to trees. All three twisters allegedly registered F-Zero on the Fujita Scale, which means wind speeds were 40 to 72 miles an hour.

The first tornado touched down near Mastins Corner at about 5:35 p.m. Falling trees and limbs were said to have caused some structural damage along a path 75 yards wide and five miles...

Another unexpected storm in April, which lasted three days, surprised the locals further still. The...

Boats laden with bodies sailed into the palm-fringed harbor of this Russian resort Wednesday, carrying an Armenian airliner's orange tail section and the remains of some of the 113 people who died when the plane tumbled into the Black Sea.

The plane went down about 2:15 a.m. in heavy rain and poor visibility as it was approaching the airport in Adler, about 12 miles south of this city wedged between the sea and soaring snowcapped mountains. Most of the dead were Armenians.

"I've lost my...
