More Coverage of ChessBoxing Sweeping the UK

The Islington Gazette presents a piece on chessboxing hitting England:

The UK's first club for the world's newest combination sport, ChessBoxing, has opened in Archway.

A combination of boxing and chess, opponents alternate for up to 11 rounds between four-minute chess rounds and two-minute boxing rounds. Competitors can win by knockout, checkmate, or a judge's decision.

The club opened at Islington Boxing Club, in Hazellville Road, on Saturday, and the event will be attended by the founder of the World ChessBoxing Organisation (WCBO), Iepe Rubingh, who is flying over to lead the first day's training.

The Great Britain ChessBoxing Organisation was founded in January by Tim Woolgar, of Crouch End, who is also responsible for the new Archway club.

He said: "Standard is high. But we are convinced there is a championship contender on our doorstep waiting to be found. We're looking for a suitable UK sponsor to help us make it happen."
